Kinect Animation
Brekel Setup
Brekel Kinect MotionBuilder Application
Jasper Brekelmans,a senior mocap & character TD and custom tool/pipeline developer for Motek comes with a useful application called brekel kinect using Microsoft Kinect sensor, and PrimeSense’s OpenNI and NITE.It allows you to capture 3D objects and export them. It also does skeleton tracking which can be streamed into MotionBuilder in real time or can be exported as BVH files.
IPiSoft Kinect Motion Capture Application
Ipisoft comes with a first commercial kinect motion capture software. ipisoft released its desktop motion capture software a year ago. It uses markerless motion capture technology. You just need to record a video using webcam or their suggested sony play station eye for better results. Then their software process the video and converts it to motion capture files. Output supports various mocap formats- Biovision .BVH format including 3DS MAX .BVH,MotionBuilder .BVH,Endorphin .BVH,iClone .BVH,Blender .BVH, FBX,COLLADA (.dae),Valve Software’s Source Engine animation .SMD
Ughhh...... not impressed....

bend controllers
This is a pretty cool link Eddie sent me yesterday.

It reminds me of some of the bending sensors that Chris was showing me... after he took some horrifically expensive piece of equipment apart. XD

malleable screen
You could lie these on surfaces, bend them, change them... it essentially makes things much more organic, opening many more doors.

I've been so focused on vibration cancelling and magnets that I totally forgot about just moving the screen around! Dur.

eye tracking
http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/16/intel-drops-21-million-for-ten-percent-stake-in-eye-tracking-fi/
The more I look into this technology, the more I feel it's only really viable in combination with this technology
http://store.neurosky.com/
Any other type of selection method would just be frustrating. Blinking? Making noises (that would be fun, but it would irritate others), scrunching up your face? Raising your eyebrows? Well, that one might work... but I imagine it would get tiring. And how do you scroll your browser down?
Anyways, I guess what I'm getting at, is that I need one of these neurosky headsets... in a bad way. For experimentation.... and the children.

mind controlling

In the case of using the skateboard to move forward, I could see that being a problem... having to maintain a state of mental momentum. There have been innumerable times when I have been drawing (physically, pencil and paper) and I tried to ctrl Z. Why not use this as an interaction method? I already do it subconsciously. When I'm in the car with someone and they're not talking loud enough, I'm constantly going to turn up the stereo to hear them better, and then stopping myself.

Hmm, this is interesting. Not entirely practical due to it being cumbersome... but I think things will start to get smaller, and at that point, we can start focusing on becoming cyborgs. (Which is really the end goal, for me at least)

smart homes
http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/design-architecture/beta-testing-the-home-of-the-future/4363
I'd really like to start disconnecting the "meat" of the machine from the viewport, and start creating an interconnected network between computers, so that we can quickly and easily share information. Once that happens, we can start to create personal hubs of "this is MY personal collection of data", while starting to break the concept of the internet into a series of servers that help control more than just abstract information. Incorporating them into new visual form factors would make the whole thing more organic.

First Post
Hi Everyone,
Lately, I find myself walking the path of a crazy inventor. There are just too many thoughts to keep contained, so I'm starting this blog just to keep myself organized.
I'm a huge perpetrator of collaboration, I think that when there aren't enough minds on a project, it breeds stagnation; so I wanted to invite people to take part and join me in my brainstorms. If you're my friend, you're probably brilliant... so lets all be mad scientists together! For the good of evolving the future of mankind, and all that.
If you find some crazy tech, post it! Cool designs and new form functions? Link me up! Bizarre thoughts? Science fiction books? Whatever! It's all a melting pot of delicious neurons baby.
